Nathaniel L. Rosi
Brief Bio
I was born and raised in Grayling, MI, a town of ~1700 in the heart of the rural northern half of Michigan's lower peninsula. In 1995, I moved to Iowa to attend Grinnell College, earning a B.A. in chemistry in 1999. At Grinnell, I explored the chemistry of new molybdenum-imido complexes with Prof. Martin Minelli and relished all aspects of the liberal arts education experience. I returned to Michigan in the fall of 1999, intending to study organic chemistry at the University of Michigan. Instead, I was introduced to the new world of MOFs in Prof. Omar Yaghi's lab. After 4 years in Yaghi's group, I earned my Ph.D. and moved to Northwestern University to join Prof. Chad Mirkin's lab as a postdoc. There I learned all about the vast potential of coupling biomolecules with nanoparticles. In 2006, I joined the faculty in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh. Outside the classroom, lab, and office, I enjoy spending time with my family, watching sports, poring over sports statistics of all kinds, gardening, getting away from the city, and visiting family and friends.
